Disclaimer: Santa has given us permission to share details of his treatment with Physio and Pilates Central
It’s not easy trying to do a year’s worth of work in one night – especially when that involves delivering presents to people all around the world. It’s tricky staying in shape for a 9-5 job so it’s no wonder Santa occasionally needs some help to stay on top form.
Climbing all those stairs with a sack- full of presents would take it out of anyone – so with a long night ahead of him, Santa dropped in to see us at Physio and Pilates Central to get his knee looked at.
When he was getting the sleigh ready, Santa noticed a pain every time he stepped down – not good news! We got him to try and squat down and the pain was still there – what to do?
Santa’s patellofemoral joint
The good news is that Tom instantly spotted some swelling around Santa’s kneecap and quickly worked out that the pain was coming from his patellofemoral joint – something we looked at a while ago in another blog.
It was good news for Santa as a bit of acupuncture quickly helped settle the symptoms, along with a some tape to support the joint.
Tom then gave Santa some exercises (these are two good ones – here and here) to do in between getting the presents ready and, so long as he doesn’t forget, the problem is easily managed and he’ll be back and ready for the 25th.
He’ll drop in after Christmas so we can progress his exercises and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
