Pilates FAQs

What should I wear?

You should wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move and stretch in. You don’t need trainers as Pilates is performed in bare feet or socks. Socks with grippy soles are useful but not essential.

Do I need a mat or any equipment?

No, all mats and small equipment such as balls, bands and rings are supplied.

Is Pilates only for women?

Pilates is for everyone and instructors are seeing increasing numbers of men taking up Pilates, including sporting greats such as Andy Murray and Brian O’Driscoll who are huge advocates.

Classes for children and adolescents are also becoming more popular and we run a range of classes for children from 5 years upwards.

I have an injury, can I do Pilates?

While Pilates can aid recovery from certain injuries, it is always important to seek advice from your doctor or physiotherapist before starting any new exercise programme.

How big are the classes?

Group classes at Physiotherapy Central are small, with no more than 8 people in a class. We keep our classes small so you get more individual attention from the instructor and feel confident you are performing the exercises correctly and safely.
